Usernames and passwords
All CAVA users-teachers, students and parents-are provided with a private username and password when they enroll at the school that allows them to use the site's online materials appropriately for their individual role.

The CAVA username and password allow users to access materials and participate in the moderated discussion groups at the site. Enabling those options is the primary use of personal information submitted to the CAVA Web site.

Changing personal profile information In order to establish a voluntary profile to help find others with like interests in the virtual homerooms of the school Web site, users may provide limited demographic information, e.g., information about pets, favorite songs, or a favorite quote. Other information (such as email addresses, choosing topics to receive email notification of when new messages are added, choosing to use a cookie to remember their usernames and passwords, and topics to which to limit keyword searches are also currently optional. Users are encouraged throughout the forums not to post any additional personally identifiable information in message on the forum boards.

If a user wishes to change or eliminate his voluntary profile, he may do so by using the Edit My Profile link at the bottom of the page. He may also change his password there.

How and why CAVA may track its Web site users In the future we may use Session ID numbers to analyze trends, administer the site, track users' movement, and gather broad demographic information for aggregate use. Session ID numbers are not linked to personally identifiable information. Additionally, for systems administration, detecting usage patterns and troubleshooting purposes, CAVA's servers may automatically log standard access information including browser type, access times, URL requested, and referral URL. While information like this may be shared with third parties in aggregate form, individually identifiable information related to this data will never be shared with third parties without explicit permission.

Allowing users to opt out Our users are given the opportunity to "opt out" of having their information available by deleting it using the Edit My Profile link at the bottom of each page of the virtual homeroom forums. No personally identifiable information is collected at any other point on the school Web site not already mentioned.
